Population and Disability: A Triangulatory Perspective

This study seeks to establish the correlation between aging and disability. It was therefore set out to examine the challenges facing elderly persons with disability. Survey method was used to select 4,566 disabled elderly persons coupled with several focus group discussions, key informant interview and In Depth interview. The study found out that older persons have one form of disability or the other ranging from impairment, physical, speech, hearing, albinism, hunchback among others. There was overwhelming evidence of societal denial resulting from stereotypes and discriminations. The study concluded that there is the urgent need for government interventions to ameliorate the challenges being faced by the older persons.
