The study was based on the effects of rural urban migration on the families left in Mthatha rural areas. Eastern Cape. The study used a non- probability sampling known as purpose sampling. A sample of 100 respondents consisting of both male and female respondents from the ages of 18 to 70 and above were interviewed about the effects of rural urban migration on the families left in rural areas. The researcher used structured questionnaires, interview and observation as majors’ research techniques to data collection. The researcher used both research methods which is qualitative and quantitative method. Findings showed that there were more female respondents accounting for 73% than the male respondents which accounted for 27%. This is due to the fact that the study was voluntary and the fact that in many households men are usually at work places leaving women at home.
